In April 2025, Garli Medi Tech proudly represented Australian Indigenous innovation on the global stage at the Ageing Asia Innovation Forum & Expo in Singapore, joining Austrade and a delegation of high-impact Australian medi tech businesses working to improve ageing and aged care outcomes across the Asia-Pacific region.
Two of the co-founders Michael Barlow and Darren Lundberg, were invited to exhibit as part of the Austrade Pavilion, where they introduced MediFusion, Garli Medi Tech’s proprietary remote diagnostic and clinical assessment platform, to health professionals, aged care providers, and government officials from across Asia.
A Platform for a Global Challenge
With ageing populations on the rise across Southeast Asia, healthcare systems are under increasing pressure to deliver quality, accessible care—particularly for seniors living in regional or underserved areas. MediFusion addresses this challenge head-on, enabling remote clinical evaluations and tele-diagnostics that bridge the gap between doctors and patients who cannot physically attend medical appointments.
“Our mission has always been to close the healthcare gap, and Ageing Asia was a powerful platform to show how MediFusion can do just that,” said Michael. “We had strong interest from aged care providers and technology partners from countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India.”
Connecting with Regional Decision Makers
The Ageing Asia Expo brought together over 5,000 delegates from more than 25 countries, offering a unique opportunity for Garli Medi Tech to gain visibility and forge cross-border partnerships. Austrade’s support provided direct introductions to key regional stakeholders and offered valuable market insights to refine Garli Medi Tech’s expansion strategy across Asia.

Proudly Indigenous, Globally Minded
As one of the few Indigenous-owned businesses at the event, Garli Medi Tech’s presence also underscored the global relevance of First Nations innovation in solving complex, real-world problems.
“Representing Indigenous Australia in an international innovation showcase like this means a great deal to us,” Darren said. “It shows the world what an Indigenous led businesses can contribute, not only in community health but in shaping the future of healthcare globally.”
Momentum for Regional Expansion
Following strong engagement at Ageing Asia, Garli Medi Tech is now in ongoing discussions with several Southeast Asian healthcare networks interested in piloting MediFusion across aged care settings.
